And what's more: no Performing Arts Experience is Needed! UBU Music specializes in working with participants from every level of experience, comfort, and skill set: from absolute beginners to advanced practitioners!
Plus - all of our residencies, workshops, and conference engagements are tailored to the schools, communities, and cultures we serve.

UBU CURRICULUM
UBU Music's classroom curriculum is based upon what we call "The UBU Treasure Chest" as taught through one-week, performing arts integration residencies:

Students of all ages quickly discover that their UBU Treasure Chest can be found within their own hearts.
UBU Performing Arts Integration
Much like the Saturday morning cartoon Schoolhouse Rock™, UBU Music's Performing Arts Integration Residencies engage and utilize performing arts skills and curricula to introduce, support, and enhance the work already being in your classrooms and after-school programs. The exciting difference with UBU Music Performing Arts Integration Residencies is that: all lyrics are created by your students! Each student’s deeper understanding of the four “UBU Treasure Chest Words” is the topic of an ongoing, week-long, interactive discussion that leads to your students creating their own original song!

PRE-RESIDENCY: In preparation for your UBU Residency, you will have the opportunity to meet with your UBU Music Teaching Artist and support staff to ensure that your student's experience is tailored to the specific curriculum needs, goals, community, and culture of your school.
DAY 1: Your UBU Music Teaching Artist arrives with all they need to lead your 5-day UBU Performing Arts Residency. All we ask of our partner schools and organizations are; a roomful of students and a full-size whiteboard
(students will need note-taking supplies: spiral notebook and writing utensil or school-approved form of a digital device)
Your UBU Music Teaching Artist begins the interactive process of discussing the UBU Treasure Chest Words with all students. These "treasure words" will serve as the foundation of your UBU Social/Emotional Learning Curriculum for the week:
HOPE, RESILIENCE, SELF-COMPASSION, EMPATHY
DAYS 2, 3, and 4: Your UBU Teaching Artist will continue to facilitate the ongoing, interactive classroom discussion on hope, resilience, self-compassion, and empathy. This engaging conversation will also include your students learning the skills to co-create their own original song lyrics based upon one or more of The UBU SEL Treasure Chest Words.
And remember: No Performing Arts Experience is Needed!
The UBU Project specializes in working with students from every level of experience, comfort, and skill set: from absolute beginners to advanced practitioners!
DAY 5: SHARING DAY! The students and teaching artist practice their song(s) a few times to increase student comfort level, sense of community, and skill. Then, the kids share their co-created song with either each other, the other classrooms of their grade level, or an invited “audience” of school admin, staff, parents, and volunteers.
Since most UBU Residency classrooms are not specifically performing arts-oriented we place our emphasis on creating a safe space where every voice and level of experience and comfort are honored and heard.
OUTCOMES: As one of our partner school counselors put it...
“At the end of the week, the students not only get to know the social-emotional skills they need. They also have a new songwriting skill that builds their self-esteem and helps them give voice to the struggles of their hearts in a hopeful, compassionate, and empathic way.”
